COPE Local 225In June of 2004, Canadian members of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) declared their autonomy and formed the Canadian Office & Professional Employees Union (COPE). In November of 2004, delegates of COPE locals from across Canada held their founding convention during which a constitution was approved, national and regional executives were elected and financial resourcing was put in place. Local 225, based in Ottawa, is one of several "national locals" with membership in nine of the ten provinces. The Local's members are employed by professional associations, national labour unions, national and provincial labour organizations, political parties and social agencies as follows:
